Growing up in the 1980s, I used to watch a lot of anthology TV series. That is, TV shows where each episode was a completely different story with a different cast. There were quite a few of these that sprung up in the mid 80s: Ray Bradbury Theater, The Hitchhiker, Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories, the remade Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and later on Tales from the Crypt. Thankfully a lot these have seen DVD releases. In fact you can buy the complete Ray Bradbury Theater series for only $15! The catch is that the video transfer is crappy, albeit watchable.
My favorite though was probably the "new" Twilight Zone series. I know it's impossible to bring up this 80s series without people whining about how the 60s original was oh-so-superior to this newer series (or for that matter, the 2002 re-remake with Forest Whitaker). But the original series wasn't perfect; it had its share of bad episodes too. More importantly, this 80s series was the one I grew up with, and in turn, it led my uncle to introducing me to the original series. So these stores are going to stick with me in a different way than the original series ever could. Never mind that it had a much creepier intro.
And this brings me to an episode that has to deal with -- you guessed it -- a clutterholic. Like all Twilight Zone stories, even though it's fictional I think there's a good bit of truth here about the human psyche. I don't think it's a stretch to say that many compulsive hoarders do have the idea in the back of their mind that the(ir) world would go out of whack if their mess was tampered with. I also have some things to say about my stuff and my landlord, but that's a whole other entry.
