For those who haven't guessed by now, the title "A Place for My Stuff" was taken from the George Carlin album and routine of the same title. I've been a life-long, die-hard George Carlin fan. I'm happy that I got to see him perform live so many times over the years, and that he left such a wealth of material behind. I own the entire Carlin catalog and I'd have to say that "A Place For My Stuff" still remains my all-time favorite album of his, if not my favorite comedy album, period.
Like many stand-up routines, "Stuff" was something that changed over the years. You can find a number of differences between the album version, the one on Carlin on Campus, the version in his book Brain Droppings, etc. Here's a version he did for one of HBO's annual Comic Relief specials.
By the way, there have been lots of stupid emails being forwarded around with jokes or rants falsely attributed to George Carlin. Before you blindly pass them on, check first to see if they really were from Carlin. If it's not an excerpt from any of his books, albums, or HBO performances, then chances are he never said it.
